Complex Numbers

As we all know, complex numbers are numbers made up of both real and imaginary parts.

Examples of complex numbers would be:

sqrt(x + jy)
e^(jwt)

Complex numbers can all be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided. They also fall under the algebra laws of commutivity, associativity and distributivity.

In Signals and Systems we will most commonly see complex numbers in signal analysis. Complex numbers are broken down into sin and cosine wave form and their amplitude, frequency and phase. The most common technique for this is Fourier Analysis.
