ECE 255 List

Topics Covered: Diode, bipolar transistor and FET circuit models for the design and analysis of electronic circuits. Single and multistage analysis and design; introduction to digital circuits. Computer aided design calculations, amplifier operating point design, and frequency response of single and multistage amplifiers. High frequency and low frequency designs are emphasized.

Course Outcomes:

i. The ability to identify and correctly utilize the external lead structure and basic electrical characteristics of common semiconductor devices (pn junctions, MOSFETs, and BJTs). The ability to analyze and design d.c. bias circuits.
ii. The ability to utilize d.c. and a.c. models of semiconductor devices in both analysis and design.
iii. The ability to analyze and design single and multistage amplifiers at low, mid and high frequencies.
iv. The ability to use a CAD tool (e.g., SPICE) in circuit analysis and design.


Concepts:

1. Diodes and the concepts of mathematical and equivalent circuit models.     (used in ECE 270, ECE 402)

2. Applications of models to circuit analysis and design.      (used in ECE 402)

3. Introduction to the Spice computer program.

4. Bipolar transistors (BJTs), dc and ac models and the use of these models in C-E amplifier design.

5. MOS transistors (MOSFETs)     (used in ECE 270)

6. DC and AC models and the use of these models in C-S amplifier design.

7. The analysis and design of other small signal amplifier configurations.

8. High frequency transistor models and the frequency response of small signal amplifiers.

9. Multistage amplifiers

10. Currents mirrors

11. Differential amplifiers.
