Hint for HW1 August 31, 2009 3:53 PM Hi all,

As advised by Prof. Datta, here are a correction about HW1 and hint in doing the Problem 3:

i. You should change the variable in the integrals: E'=E-U and rewrite the them so that the density of state in the channel is not depend on U.

ii. In problem 2, we assume UL=0.5*(U_source+U_drain)

iii. In problem 3: 1. Chose an initial potential U=UL 2. Find N as in the question sheet 3. Calculate U_new=U+U0*(N-N0) 4. Calculate the change=U-Unew, check if this is "small enough" 4. If not small, now you can update the new guess U by: U=U+0.002*(U_new-U)

Hope this help.
