You don't need to add k in until you write E[C] the P[C] won't contain the k term because it has a probability of 1 so you essentially would be multiplying you whole P[C] by 1. However, when you write E[C] you will have the number of guessed answers + the k he has already gotten correct. Giving the total number of answers he is expected to get correct (E[c]).
