One way of doing this problem is looking at it as a tree

                      Your Friend
                     C    G    G
  1/3 for each       |    |    |
       *                 You
                 G   G   C  G   C  G
  1/2 for each   |   |   |  |   |  |
        =       1/6 1/6 1/6 1/6 1/6 1/6

Chances of you getting the car are 1/6+1/6=2/6 or 1/3 which is the same as if you pick first so it doesnt matter.
