MAXIMA Summer REU in Interdisciplinary Mathematics

The Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the Macalester College Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) announce a six-week (June 9 - July 18, 2014) REU in applied mathematics. The program will be hosted at the IMA facilities at the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota (UMN).

Twelve students will work in teams of four on an open research problem in applied mathematics. Topics for summer 2014 are smartphone activity tracking, computer vision, and online communities. These problems have been posed by UMN researchers, and each team will be advised by a MSCS faculty member and will be mentored by an IMA postdoctoral fellow.
