Today we had a short discussion about how to represent CT systems defined by a differential equation using a system's diagram, and about how to represent DT systems defined by a difference equation using a system's diagram. It was pointed out that it would be nice to be able to draw such diagrams on Rhea. (Anyone wants to take on that challenge?). We then began motivating the study of Fourier series by looking at what happens to complex exponentials signals when they go through an LTI system. It was observed that the signal then comes out multiplied by a constant. We then finished the lecture by giving the formula for the Fourier series of a CT signal, along with the formula for the coefficients in that series. It was observed that, when writing cosine/sine as a Fourier series, we are effectively writing out their Fourier series.
