For all students @ math:
An outstanding mathematician, Steven G. Krantz, will be our special guest colloquium speaker. His talk is Tuesday, November 18, at 4:30 in MATH 175 with tea at 4:00 in the Library Lounge.
The Proof is in the Pudding, Steve Krantz
Abstract: We discuss the history and changing nature of mathematical proof. Both sociological and computational influences will be considered. Specific instances from recent mathematical events will be discussed.
Krantz wrote a book on being a math graduate student: "A Mathematician's survival guide," in addition to over 100 research papers and 40 other books on mathematics and life in mathematics. He is a witty and engaging speaker.
While I am advertising that you go to the talk, he will also be available for chat before his talk: Pre-tea with Steve Krantz 3:00 - 4:00 PM, Tuesday Library Lounge
This is meant for grad students, but I am sure undergrads are welcome too.
