Wednesday January 12, 2011 (Week 1) - See Course Schedule.
We began the second lecture with a few pointer on how to post on this wiki. We then finished our discussion of sound signals from the previous lecture using MATLAB to play some pure frequencies. We then defined the energy and the power of a signal (both for a CT and for a DT signal) and discussed the kind of questions related to energy and power one could expect on the test. We continued with a description of the three basic transformations of the independent variable, namely time shifting, time reversal, and time scaling.
The first homework announcement was announced. It is due next Wednesday.
Action items before the next lecture:
- Read section 1.2 in the textbook.
- Begin working on the first homework.
- Solve the following practice problems on signal power and energy. (This should be very quick!)
