This semester, Zach is going to be responsible for maintaining the server operations and overseeing the software development. We are still looking for a couple more students to join the team. Let us know if you are interested!

In the Summer 2009, Ben oversaw the team transition. Zach joined the team and was very active developing software for the site. He is the one who added the short cuts for creating new pages/course pages/child pages, and he worked on implementing the first version of the liaison system. He also developed the dropbox. As always, Katie brought her great enthusiasm into the project and proposed some important features while working hard at promoting Rhea campus wide.

will be taking the leading role this summer.

Meet the Spring 2009 Development team

The team for the Spring 2009 semester is currently being formed. So far, we have

Ben Brame Deen King-Smith Stephen Rudolph Hector Santos Nate Orlow Chris Humbert

Ben took care of merging the many databases into a single one at the beginning of the semester. Deen arranged to get the URL www.purdue.edu/rhea and ordered the computers for the Rhea development lab. Stephen installed a syntax highlighting extension to display code. Nate enhanced the Help section by adding screen shots. He also did a lot of work on several different courses pages, contributing a large amount of material and keeping the pages organized while helping other students understand how Rhea works. Chris Humbert worked on the skin to make it compatible with different browsers. In particular, Rhea is now Internet Explorer 6 compatible thanks to his efforts. Chris is only a first year undergraduate, so we are really proud of his hard work!

Meet the Fall 2008 Student Development team

The Fall 2008 development team took care of migrating Kiwi into Rhea. (yes, I know it was a cute name, but we did not have a choice...) Ben Horst designed the Rhea logos. Dennis Snell and Mike Walker worked on developing the new skin with the Purdue color and a design distinctive from wikipedia. Stephen Rudolph and Mike Walker set up a backup server. Dennis Snell set up SVN. Ben Brame enabled dual login. Am I forgetting anything?

Initial Development Work

The initial development work was done in the Summer of 2007 by Katie Bouman (now at U. of Michigan) under the supervision of Professor Mimi Boutin. Katie remained on the project until the end of Summer 2008, participating in outreach activities and helping to create the kiwi instructinal video. Dennis Snell, an undergraduate student in ECE at Purdue, was instrumental in developing the first version of the kiwi using the zope software in Fall 2008 and concretely defining the project. He also orchestrated the migration to mediaWiki in Spring 2008. Deen King-Smith, a PhD student in ECE, took a leading role in the project in Spring 2008. William Ehlhardt, an undergraduate student in ECE, attacked some information management challenges in the Summer of 2008. He is also the one who designed the kiwi mascot and he is the voice on the kiwi instructional video. Stephen Rudolph, a masters student in ECE, took the lead of the project in the Summer 2008 and organized the migration to the new server. Ben Horst developed the Rhea logos in September 08.
