In the fourth lecture, we defined and discussed the CT and DT versions of complex exponential signals and (through Euler's formula) their relationship with sine and cosine. It was observed that complex exponential signals whose exponent is purely imaginary are always periodic and gave a simple expression for the fundamental period of such signals. Then we discussed the DT equivalents and pointed out that they are not necessarily periodic (e.g.  <math class="inline">e^{jn}</math> is not periodic). In the case where they are periodic, we described a simple method for determining their fundamental period.
