Lecture 31 Blog, ECE438 Fall 2011, Prof. Boutin

Friday November 4, 2011 (Week 11) - See Course Outline.

Today we discussed how formants can be used to recognize voiced phonemes in a speech signal. We also defined the short time Fourier transform (STFT) of a signal and the "spectogram" of a speech signal. We distinguished "narrow-band" spectrum and "broad-band" spectrum and mentioned the uncertainty principle.
