Single sideband amplitude modulation is a way to eliminate redundancy when transmitting a signal.

This can be accomplished either by a band-pass filter OR using the following system.

The input signal x(t) is input into a Hilbert Transform (-j for w > 0; j for w < 0). The output of this is then multiplied by sin(wct). We'll call the output of this y1(t). The input signal x(t) is also multiplied by a carrier signal cos(wct), the output of this we'll call y2(t). y1(t) and y2(t) are then added together to give the output signal y(t).
