Peer Legacy for ECE201: Linear Circuit Analysis I

All students who have previously taken ECE201 are welcome to use this page to leave comments/give advice for future students.

  • ECE201 is THE foundation course that gives ECE majors the foundation of everything that is ECE. Problem is, ECE202 cancels out the methods learned in ECE201. Maybe ECE201 should be combined with ECE202?? Everything in ECE201 is important, so make sure you learn it all! Remember, this is your foundation course. Think positive; ECE202 will be "funner"!! --Kimberly
  • ECE201 was actually quite easy for me (202 was not). The basics in this class are very important. If you take the time to do the homework correctly, you should have a much easier time taking exam. I highly recommend taking advantage of the office hours for this class. The TAs are quite helpful as are your classmates. Also, because the exams are multiple choice, you should very rarely have to completely solve a problem. Use a process of elimination to narrow the possibilities to three, then find the distinguishing part of each answer and solve only that part. Enjoy!--Kelton
  • ECE201 is definitely important as it is the foundations for many classes later ECE classes. However, I do have to say that ECE 202 does show a lot of short cuts and better methods for sloving problems in ECE 201. I personally found the class somewhat hard but I didn't really put as much effort as I should have. --Le
  • ECE201 is a great course to show EE students what to expect in future semesters. Firstly, it makes sure that one actually understands the pure basics: Voltage, Current, Circuits, etc. Secondly and more importantly it shows students what level of hard work and dedication they have to put in if they expect to do well in EE at Purdue. Do this course thoroughly, make a habit of visiting TA office hours, start getting to know the professors in your major. I had to learn these things the hard way --Vineet
  • ECE201 was one of the easiest and fun classes I took among all the ECE courses. Although when I look back the workload required was not a lot, it gave a very good start of what is being an EE student. General concepts on basic devices, such as resister, capacitor, and inductor were very important for further courses like ECE202 and ECE255. --euijae
  • ECE201 is in important class. You will see a lot of new concepts and material that you haven't seen before given that is one of your first EE/ECE classes, so be prepared to learn! You will also use a lot of these concepts in your EE labs. Cracking open the book is not optional for this course so GET IT! Study/homework groups are very helpful for this course as well because most people get stuck on the homework. This isn't an EE/ECE exclusive course as a lot of ME take this course as well. --Michael Shen
  • ECE201 is the foundation of whatever you will do in ECE. This is the class which gives you most of the understanding needed to succeed in ECE, and teaches you most of the circuit analysis you will use. This class should be taken very seriously. It may seem like learning the little tricks to do well in the exam is better than really trying to understand this course, but the first way of working could really cripple you as you go along. Willie Haywood
  • ECE201 is a very fundatimental course, not only just for ECE students. Beginners always regard it as an easy course, so did I. But looking back as a senior, I find it such an important course. It gives you most of the basic knowledge of electrical circuit and how to solve it. I am happy that I put effort on this course and got a pretty good start, which made my life so much easier in Sophoremore and Junior year. --yang zhu
  • ECE201 is the MOST important class for both EE and CompE. As a senior in EE, I consider this class as very important. If you do not understand the basic concept in this class, you will need to study until you do so as it will be used in many other courses. Basic stuff as Ohm's Law and things about capacitors will come back to you when you do a senior design. So this class is extremely important. --JaeSung Youn
  • ECE201 is a really important class because it teaches the basics of what we learn and a lot of other classes like 202 and 255 will use what you learned in 201. Just make sure you work hard and do your best to understand the main points and you'll be fine. Also, don't over think it. When i took 201 i struggled at first because i kept thinking everything was harder than it actually was. So don't over think anything, most of the problems really aren't as hard as they seem. --Chris Romanoff
  • ECE201, yup it's kind of important for electrical engineers. Definitely thought this class was pretty hard, considering I had a zero EE background coming out of high school. But this class is absolutely vital as a foundation for everything you do as an EE. The lab that goes with it is similarly very important. As a cooperative education student, I've used the principles taught in both the lecture and the lab time and time again. Take the time to understand it. It'll become easier as you go. -- Jesse Bauson
  • ECE201 This class may seem hard but as you go on to junior year, you'll find it's probably one of the easiest courses in the ECE curriculum. Most of the courses you'll take after 201 will use material learnt in this class so knowing this material well is very important. When I was taking senior desing, 201 was one of the most helpful courses and I even brought the textbook to lab with me as a reference manual. --- Maliha Hossain
  • ECE201 This class teaches fundamental circuit analysis materials, which is important for beginners. Compare to ECE 202 or ECE 270, this is a relatively easy class but still practice is needed. Because you want to make sure when it comes to the exam, you can doing calculations fast. When I took ECE 201, i went to office hour regularly, it was a good opportunity to ask TA questions and discusses homework problems with classmates. --- Lin Yang
