My favorite theorem is the four color map theorem. It states that a map that is divided into colored regions needs only four colors to ensure that no adjacent regions are the same color. I remember learning it in 8th grade geometry class and I spent hours trying to draw a map that would disprove it. Quite clearly, I never disproved it.
